SENIOR POSTDOCTORAL SCIENTIST

Organization: Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute
Location: La Joya, CA

We want to recruit a senior postdoctoral scientist with a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in mammalian cell glycobiology and biochemistry.

We study mammalian monosaccharide metabolism, with particular emphasis on L-fucose and its relevance to patients affected by rare Congenital Disorders of Glycosylation (CDGs). We have substantial interactions with patients and physicians.

The successful candidate will bring strong expertise in biochemical, molecular, and metabolic approaches, and the ability to analyze, interpret, and integrate complex datasets. A solid publication record is expected, as shown by senior-author publications in using LC-MS and/or GC-MS based metabolic flux or studies, following labeled precursors into multiple downstream products. An on-demand working understanding of metabolic pathways and their interactions is essential.  Background in chemistry, proteomics, glycomics, and some experience in glycoproteomics, is highly desirable.

Candidates should also have facility and hands-on experience with standard molecular biology techniques, including cloning, sequencing, and CRISPR-based genome editing.  Clear and effective communication skills in written and spoken English is essential. Independent, critical thinking is expected together with a team-work attitude.

Due to current uncertainties in U.S. visa policies, applications are limited to candidates already authorized and working in the United States.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and scholarly productivity.
