As we monitor the global progress of efforts to manage the pandemic, the health and safety of attendees, presenters, exhibitors, staff, and the local community is a priority for the Society for Glycobiology (SFG), along with providing formats that meet the needs of the society’s membership. This year’s annual meeting will use a hybrid meeting format (in-person and virtual component) as described below.

Planning for a LIVE in-person gathering at the Westin San Diego Gaslamp Quarter Hotel continues. For those who can join us in person, we are excited to meet again face-to-face in San Diego, November 7–10, 2021. To ensure the safest possible in-person gathering, vaccinations and masks will be required for the in-person events in San Diego as detailed below. Please visit the website for additional details of SFG Safety Statement and Meeting Policies.

An alternative VIRTUAL format is now available to allow for registration those who are unable to attend in person. This format will include ways to connect with other attendees and to interact with SFG sponsors virtually.

Hybrid Meeting Format (In-Person and Virtual Component)

The in-person meeting will be held at the Westin San Diego Gaslamp Quarter hotel and vaccinations and masks will be required.

  • Proof of full vaccination is required. Prior to arriving on-site, attendees will be asked to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated. Be prepared to upload documented proof, such as a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) or World Health Organization (WHO) card/letter, that full vaccination was completed at least 14 days prior to arriving on-site in San Diego. There will be no exceptions to the vaccination requirement to attend the in-person portion of the meeting. Unvaccinated individuals are highly encouraged to access the virtual version of the meeting, which includes posters and recordings of sessions with keynote talks and award lectures. You can upload your proof of vaccination at this secure form.
  • Face masks are required to be worn indoors except in the following limited circumstances: 1. When actively eating or drinking, 2. When presenting a talk. Masks will be required at all times in the poster and exhibit areas. No food or beverages will be permitted in the poster areas. Any person who does not adhere to the mask policy will be asked to leave and may be denied readmission to the meeting.

Virtual Component

  • Sessions will be recorded and available on a virtual platform. The sessions, including keynote talks and award lectures, will not be live-streamed. Rather, the recorded sessions will be available after the meeting for viewing on demand at times when it is convenient for virtual registrants to experience the content of the meeting.
  • This virtual format will include posters, keynote talks, and award lectures, as well as additional ways to connect with fellow attendees and to interact with SFG sponsors.

Registration

If you have already registered for the in-person meeting, please contact [email protected] if you would like to convert your in-person registration to a virtual-only registration.

See the updated registration page for the in-person and virtual-only registration options.

  • In-person registrants will also have access to the on-demand content following the meeting.
  • The on-demand content of the meeting, along with networking connections, will be available for 60 days following the end of the meeting.
  • Due to the full vaccination status requirement for in-person attendees, there will be no on-site registration option.

These decisions have been made to provide all participants with the access and assurances to confidently register for the Annual Meeting. If you have any questions, please contact me or SFG staff at [email protected]. I look forward to your in-person or virtual participation in November!

Sincerely,

Nancy M. Dahms, PhD
