TWO TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITIONS IN GLYCOSCIENCE
COMPLEX CARBOHYDRATE RESEARCH CENTER, UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA

The University of Georgia announces openings for two tenure track faculty members at the Assistant Professor level in the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center in (1) any area of biomedical glycoscience and (2) plant cell wall glycoscience. Applications will be considered from talented and accomplished investigators who currently maintain or exhibit potential for developing vigorous research programs. We seek outstanding scientists who are addressing fundamental biological problems whose research either complements or expands existing strengths in the Center, including state of the art Computational, NMR, and Mass Spectrometry infrastructure (www.ccrc.uga.edu). Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

Biomedical Glycoscience: enzymology and structural biology of glycan biosynthesis, developmental glycobiology, roles of glycans and glycoconjugates in disease processes such as cancer, inflammation, immunology, cell signaling, metabolic, neural and genetic disorders, microbial glycobiology, chemical and chemoenzymatic glycan synthesis.

Plant Cell Wall Glycoscience: new analytical approaches to probe wall structure; plant cell wall biosynthesis, polymer assembly and wall remodeling during growth; cell biology of plant cell walls; plant cell wall-microbe interactions, including microbial utilization or recognition of plant materials in the environment or in host models; cell wall structure-function in plant growth, form and response to stress.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in Biological Sciences, at least three years relevant postdoctoral research experience, an outstanding publication record in their areas of glycoscience and a well- developed research plan. Successful candidates will be expected to build or maintain a vibrant, extramurally-funded research program that integrates with and leverages the highly collaborative research environment at the CCRC and UGA. The individual will have access to a robust graduate student training program and undergraduate trainees, as well as the opportunity to participate in classroom education. An attractive start-up package with highly competitive conditions of employment will be offered. The University of Georgia (www.uga.edu) is a Research 1 land-grant and sea grant institution located 72 miles northeast of Atlanta in Athens, Georgia and provides an outstanding quality of life in the Athens region (www.visitathensga.com).
