Postdoctoral Fellow or Physician-Scientists Studying Glycobiology in Iron Metabolism

We are recruiting a post-doctoral associate or Physician-Scientiststo work on NIH-supported projects in the Gordts group in the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego. The Gordts laboratory (http://www.philipgordts.com), part of the University of California San Diego (USCD) Glycobiology Research and Training Center in the Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, is looking for a talented and motivated Postdoctoral fellow or Physician-Scientist to work in an outstanding scientific and collaborative environment.

The position is offered to study the role of cell surface glycans, proteoglycans, in regulating iron metabolism. Iron overload disorders and iron-restricted anemias are the most common hematological diseases worldwide. This position is aimed to engage in a project that will help understand the role of proteoglycans as an iron regulator and a putative novel therapeutic target that can be used to treat iron-overload disorders and iron-restricted anemias.

Candidates should have a recent Ph.D. in biochemistry or a related biomedical field.  The ideal candidate for the position should have experience in either glycobiology, iron metabolism, hepatocyte biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or molecular biology evident by peer-reviewed publications in reputable journals.

Competitive salary and benefits are available commensurate with experience.  Fluent spoken English, a strong publication track record, and a collaborative and collegial attitude toward staff at all levels is required.

The Gordts Lab is committed to providing an environment where everyone feels welcome and supported. We strongly promote excellence through diversity and encourage applications from outstanding candidates within the underrepresented groups in STEM.
