The Division of Surgical Sciences within the Department of Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, is seeking a highly qualified Principal Investigator. The Division has approximately 30 faculty with strong programs in fundamental, translational and clinical research that include regenerative medicine, inflammation, cancer, nutrition, innate and adaptive immunity and immune mechanisms, transplantation, and vascular biology. The overall mission of this new Division, led by its Chief Richard D. Cummings, Ph.D., is to support discoveries that enhance the Department’s core mission to develop more effective approaches for promoting health, prevention of illness, and treatment of disease. The Department is led by its Chair Elliot L. Chaikof, M.D., Ph.D., and has nearly 130 faculty with outstanding contributions in patient care, research, and surgical education.

The successful candidate for this position is expected to have research interests that complement and expand upon the research within the Division, and to compete successfully for independent research funding and/or collaborate with other investigators in the Division to obtain research funding. The candidate should have a history of supporting and mentoring the research efforts of students, residents, fellows, and faculty, and will have the opportunity to play an important role in supervising residents and fellows engaged in clinical and/or basic bench research projects. The successful candidate will be eligible for a faculty appointment at Harvard Medical School at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor commensurate with experience, training, and achievement in the field.
